2009 Movie List
Stolen from
Fiction. I’ve only ever written non-fiction for school.
2. Do you keep a journal or a writing notebook?
I have a writing notebook that has the information on my novel, which died sometime last year. I have this journal, where I hope to start posting fanfics again, and I have Sith Happens, my website, where anything halfway decent that I've written is posted.
3. If you write fiction, do you know your characters’ goals, motivations, and conflicts before you start writing or is that something else you discover only after you start writing? Do you find books on plotting useful or harmful?
It really depends on what I'm writing. If I write fanfics, obviously I should know the characters and the general plot, but I never plan anything out - in fanfic or original. In original stuff I don't usually know a whole lot about the character, because even if I decide that how a character is going to be, they end up differently. So I put the basics down - history, etc - and leave the personality to the basics, if I do it all and just write. It's part of the fun, discovering the characters.
4. Are you a procrastinator or does the itch to write keep at you until you sit down and work?
I agree with
5. Do you write in short bursts of creative energy, or can you sit down and write for hours at a time?
Well this depends as well. If I'm distracted that day, or not particularly creative-feeling, or stuck on a plot, it'll be in short bursts. But if I'm really into something I can sit for hours and write and not even realize its been hours.
6. Are you a morning or afternoon writer?
None of the above. My inspiration comes to me at night, when I'm laying in bed trying to fall asleep. Because then I don't have other things on my mind and its just so freeing. Of course, that usually means that I have problems sleeping because I'm so busy exploring the idea I have, unless I block it out. Which I rarely do.
7. Do you write with music/the noise of children/in a cafe or other public setting, or do you need complete silence to concentrate?
I can't have any noise except for my music on. If the tv's on, I find I'll be paying attention to that, rather than my writing. If people are talking, I can't block them out. But if my music is on, its just kind of there to keep me focused, gather inspiration from, but not actually listen to.
8. Computer or longhand? (or typewriter?)
Computer, definitely. I rarely write in my journal, unless its poetry or an idea I get when I have my journal around, and not my computer.
9. Do you know the ending before you type Chapter One? Or do you let the story evolve as you write?
I know the ending, usually, but not the stuff in the middle. Which is a problem, because I usually just get stuck in the middle and not know how to get to the end.
10. Does what’s selling in the market influence how and what you write?
Uhm...I would like to say no, but yes it does. And I hate it. I mean, the whole reason my novel died was because my hero, Timothy J. Anderson gave me all these new ideas because he thought it would sell better, and then I just couldn't figure out how to incorporate them, and it died. And it makes me sad, because it was a great idea! (What's worse, is that he asked me how it was going in July and I was like "Uh...it's not." And he gave me this look that was obviously giving me hell for not writing it. I guess he liked the idea too.)
11. Editing/Revision - love it or hate it?
HATE IT. I mean, when I'm writing I usually edit a bit, but I hate going back afterward and editing it. Because I don't do it right away, so then I'm just like "Ugh I don't wanna, I just want to keep writing it." so it's always really hard for me to edit.
